We all know that to exfoliate your body is a good idea for soft, radiant skin. But there’s often a little more to it than meets the eye. To get the best results from your body exfoliating regimen, we spoke with the skincare and beauty researchers at Callyssee Cosmetics. Their tips and tricks will help you take your scrubbing sessions from good to great.
How to Exfoliate Your Body for Best Results
#1 Do a dry brush first
You don’t want those dry dead skin cells mingling with your fresh skin while you’re exfoliating, so take some time to brush them off while you’re still dry. You can do this using a loofah or brush while you’re standing in the shower, right before you turn on the water.
#2 Work in circles
When in the shower, a circular scrubbing motion will provide the gentle action needed while allowing complete coverage of the areas that need exfoliating. It’s a lot more gentle approach than a back and forth scrubbing motion.
#3 Start from the bottom up
Another good approach is to start at the feet and legs and work your way up the body.
#4 Go easy on the sensitive areas
The area around your privates tends to be a bit sensitive, so don’t scrub too hard here. Use a gentle motion to get the best results.
#5 Make use of a brush
It can be tough to reach the back, but this area needs exfoliating, as well. Having a dedicated brush for your back can help.
#6 Finish with cold water
It may be a bit unpleasant, but finishing the shower with cold water will give your skin the best preparation for moisturizing afterward. So the last step is to rinse with cold water before you step out of the shower.
